Criminal in Madhya Pradesh shot after attempting to escape police custody

A criminal was injured in a police encounter after attempting to escape custody by snatching a policeman’s revolver in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district on Sunday night. The incident occurred in the Matguvan police station area while the police vehicle was stopped for a break between Matguvan and Chhatarpur.

The criminal, identified as Ravindra Singh Parihar, had been arrested earlier in Pithampur, Dhar district. Parihar, who carries a reward of ₹30,000, was being transported to Chhatarpur when he seized the opportunity to grab a policeman’s revolver while alighting from the vehicle. In an attempt to flee, Parihar fired at the officers, prompting the police team to retaliate.

The police fired back in self-defense, injuring Parihar in the leg. He was immediately taken to the district hospital for treatment, where he is currently recovering from his injuries.

Chhatarpur’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Agam Jain, confirmed the encounter and stated that Parihar has a lengthy criminal record. He is allegedly involved in 12 cases, including serious charges like extortion and murder.

This is not Parihar’s first violent encounter with law enforcement. Just last week, he had opened fire at a police team trying to arrest him in Deri village, further adding to his list of criminal activities.

Authorities are now investigating the full extent of Parihar’s criminal involvement, as the case adds to the growing concerns of rising violence and crime in the region.
